Press Release: GRANDMA FACES EVICTION FOR USING MEDICAL CANNABIS
---
Legalise Cannabis Alliance (LCA) campaigners are up-in-arms about the
forthcoming Civil court case in Newcastle where "Cannabis Gran" Mrs
Patricia Tabram faces possible eviction for using cannabis.
The Legalise Cannabis Alliance have contacted Bill Tebay, managing
director of Milecastle Housing but received no reply.
Alun Buffry from Norwich, a spokesman for the LCA said: "I wrote to Mr
Tebay on behalf of the Alliance, but he has not replied. however, other
people have received replies and it is clear that Milecastle Housing
believe the must stick precisely to the letter of the law, with no room
for compassion.
"True enough, the Misuse of Drugs Act puts the onus on landlords to
ensure illegal drugs are not used on their premises, and Mrs Tabram,
rightly or wrongly, has been convicted under that Act.
"However, I don't feel for one minute that many people would think that
the Misuse of Drugs Act was ever supposed to be used against pensioners
who use grow a plant, even cannabis, for their own medical benefit,
especially in such tiny quantities - and certainly not to be used to
evict them.
"In fact, the police are highly unlikely to pay anyone a visit for using
50 pence worth of plant a day. She deserves the protection of the law,
not persecution by it.
"The question is this: is there room in the Court for compassion, or at
they going to give Mrs Tabram Hobson's choice - get ill or get out?"
Note: This not just about Pat the Misuse of Drugs Act puts the onus on
all landlords to ensure illegal drugs are not used on their premises!
