UK: Men fined for growing cannabis
---
Two men have been fined after police discovered they were growing
thousands of pounds worth of cannabis at their Norwich home.
At Norwich Crown Court yesterday, David Francis, 46, of St Martins
Close, Norwich, admitted producing 36 plants capable of producing a
yield worth £2,000 in September last year. He told police he was growing
the drug to cope with his medical problems.
He has no previous offences of this nature and Judge Alasdair Darroch
fined him £200.
Stephen Buttle, 35, also of St Martins Close, admitted producing 31
plants capable of producing 1,300 grams of the drug and worth thousands
of pounds.
Buttle said it was to feed his own habit and he had never grown the drug
before. The court heard he had previous drugs offences, including
possessing cannabis.
Michael Clare, defending, said he produced the cannabis to keep himself
away from previous drug users.
He was ordered to do 150 hours unpaid work for the community and ordered
to pay £300 towards prosecution costs.
Judge Darroch told him: “You have served a lengthy drugs sentence in the
past.” He warned him if he came back to court again he would be sent to
prison.
