France: 7 Years for Drug Runner
---
A GLASWEGIAN drug smuggler was jailed for seven years yesterday by a
French court for a million-pound cannabis run.
But Paul Munro, 34, was not in court - he has been on the run since his
gang was smashed at St Malo in Brittany in May 2005.
His two sidekicks were not so lucky.
Kick-boxing champ Mark Lodge, 41, got six years and and mother-of-two
Anna Cook, 46, was jailed for 30 months.
Munro escaped by leaping over car bonnets and sprinting away from dozens
of narcotics men.
He managed to steal a car and race off, out-driving his pursuers. He has
not been seen since, despite warrants for his arrest and Interpol
inquiries. It is thought he is on the Costa del Sol.
Munro had planned to take 281 kilos of Moroccan cannabis hidden in a
trailer carrying an air compressor to Jersey.
A judge in Rennes heard Munro had paid former European kick-boxing
champion turned security guard Lodge and his girlfriend Cook £15,000
each to drive the drugs from Malaga to St Malo.
Munro followed in another car, unaware drugs officers had been
monitoring the whole operation.
But when they swooped, Munro managed to give them the slip.
