UK: PC warns parents about cannabis use
---
A police officer has called on parents to tell their children about the
dangers of drugs.
The warning came after the PC sent letters to the parents of teenagers
who were socialising with a boy charged with a drug offence.
The 15-year-old was charged following the discovery of cannabis. Police
were responding to a report of a "nuisance group" congregating in
Borstal Street in Chatham on October 26.
PC Mel Ling sent letters to the parents of the other teenagers who were
present on the evening.
She said: "There is nothing to suggest that the other youngsters are
involved in drugs, however I feel that parents would want to know that
their children were in the presence of someone who was later charged
with a drugs offence. I hope that they will be supportive of our efforts
and advise their children of the dangers of drugs.
"Some people think that possessing cannabis is legal, I would like to
stress it is not and we will take appropriate action against those found
with the drug. Our efforts demonstrates that we are keen to work with
local people to combat antisocial behaviour and keep their children safe."
